9/4/2023 0 Comments Dossier perfume santal 33Does it smell fantastic? Does it last? Dossier immediately checked both of these boxes. To measure the actual quality and efficacy of perfume, there are really only two major questions that matter (to me at least). By eliminating prestige pricing, advertising, and packaging, Dossier sells designer perfume blends (some of which ordinarily sell for over $100) in the range of $29 to $39. They’re even produced in Grasse, France, also known as the perfume capital of the world. The brand crafts perfumes inspired by designer fragrances but sells them for a fraction of the cost, despite being entirely vegan, cruelty-free, and composed of the same high-quality ingredients. My perfume is part of my identity, after all! Dossier’s model and prices are pretty groundbreaking. So, when I set out to test Dossier, the latest (and potentially greatest) DTC disruptor in the fragrance game, my standards were high. I love the scent, so much so that many of my friends can identify when I’ve been in a room or will soon approach by the trace of my perfume alone. This has been the case with the perfume I’ve used for the last four years - I won’t call it out by brand, but I will hint that it rhymes with my name. I prefer to have one thing I love that does the work of the latest fifteen “innovative” products, and am willing to invest in a quality purchase if it means I’ll reach for it every morning. While I love to experiment with all things beauty, I’m secretly a brand (and product) loyalist. Our editorial team is independent and only endorses products we believe in. The result is a much richer scent, one that strikes an ideal balance between the sharpness of woody notes and the smoothness of floral notes. Our team is dedicated to finding and telling you more about the web’s best products. This Le Labo’s Santal 33 dupe from is a lot cheaper than the original, and uses 100% Indian sandalwood - an ingredient rawer, earthier, and creamier than its Australian counterpart. On the plus side though, you can get the same scent for much less.Įnter Woody Sandalwood. Unfortunately, there is a downside to Le Labo’s signature scent, and that’s the price. Le Labo’s Santal 33 collection is available as an Eau de Parfum, body wash, body lotion, and candle. But regardless of how you look at it, this is a very mature scent, one that is suited for anyone so inclined to appreciate the finer side of life. It’s a lovely, comforting, smooth scent as it opens and develops, although by the end, what you’re left with is a bunch of smoky, milky notes that capture the distinctive scent of Australian sandalwood. Santal 33, as a whole, gives off a subtle aroma of milk and roses mixed with dense, old woods. Late in Santal 33’s dry-down, sandalwood’s deep, warm character completely takes over, cementing its dominant run throughout the scent. In the background, a green cedar note is briefly discernible, together with a dab of cardamom, though they don’t stay around long. Iris, papyrus, and violet make up the top and middle notes, giving it an overall floral, musky aroma. This is accented by a woody accord (with bits of cedar, sandalwood, and turpentine) fused with a cream-like scent (thanks to the coconut and tonka bean). Santal 33 greets you with a smoky, almost leathery aroma. In any case, there is something universally sensual about this perfume, one that intoxicates both men and women alike. With its woodsy-sweet scent, it has a rugged, yet not overly masculine appeal if anything, it seems more androgynous. It’s a scent celebrated by perfumistas all over, and yet still enjoyably accessible to those who don’t know it.ĭeveloped by perfumer Frank Voelkl, Le Labo’s Santal 33 was unveiled in 2011. This is a fragrance that has transcended cult status to become something that is at the same time coveted and ubiquitous. It’s so well-known that even some of the most iconic celebrities have taken to the unisex scent, such as Alexa Chung and Justin Bieber. Santal 33, Le Labo’s long-standing fragrance, is undoubtedly one of the most defining scents of the decade.
